Moore wasn't listed as a major stockholder in DoorDash's filing to go public; in fact, he wasn't named at all in the IPO paperwork.</p><p>And when DoorDash cofounder and chief executive Tony Xu <a href="https://www.wired.com/2015/11/doordash-wants-to-own-the-last-mile/">told the company's origin story to Wired</a> in 2015, the reporter who interviewed Xu noted that as Xu spoke, "he has to be reminded that there is a fourth founder."</p><p>Moore's reasons for leaving are unclear, but his contributions to the company are better known.</p><h2>He was an original 'dasher'</h2><p>As business school students, Moore and Xu came up with the idea for DoorDash at <a href="https://www.gsb.stanford.edu/experience/news-history/startup-garage-celebrates-five-years">Stanford's "Startup Garage,"</a> a graduate-level lab course that challenges students to design, test, and launch a new venture. The duo <a href="https://poetsandquants.com/2014/03/25/how-stanford-cultivates-its-startup-culture/3/">brought on</a> two undergraduate students from the computer science department, Andy Fang and Stanley Tang, to build a product.</p><p>The first iteration of the company was a website that posted menus from eight nearby restaurants, along with a Google Voice phone number that customers could call to place their order. The cofounders were the first "dashers," answering the phone and running deliveries to customers around Palo Alto, Moore <a href="https://www.stanforddaily.com/2013/09/23/alumni-founded-startup-caters-to-palo-alto-mountain-view-food-deliveries/">told the school newspaper</a> in 2013.</p><div><blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en" data-cards="" data-conversation=""><p lang="en" dir="ltr">DoorDash is in San Jose! We're out here making friends all day. <a href="http://t.co/cumPD43yhx">pic.twitter.com/cumPD43yhx</a></p> Evan Charles Moore (@evancharles) <a href="https://twitter.com/mims/statuses/423572951380672513'ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">January 15, 2014</a></blockquote><script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></div><p></p><p>Before the year was over, DoorDash was accepted into famed startup accelerator Y Combinator and had raised $2.4 million in a <a href="https://techcrunch.com/2013/09/30/door-dash-raises-2-4m/">seed round</a> of funding from top-tier investors such as Khosla Ventures and Ron Conway's SV Angel.</p><p>That's how Moore met the team at Khosla, a firm helmed by one of Silicon Valley's most prolific dealmakers, Vinod Khosla. He joined the venture shop as an entrepreneur-in-residence, scouting deals and performing diligence.</p><p>For some reason or another, Moore left his day job at DoorDash in 2014.</p><p>"Xu describes the split as a corporate version of an amicable divorce," <a href="https://www.wired.com/2015/11/doordash-wants-to-own-the-last-mile/">Wired's Steven Levy wrote</a> in 2015. "Moore basically confirms this vague account, and now speaks of DoorDash with respect, though not much enthusiasm."</p><p>Levy later updated the article with a comment from Moore, saying his lack of enthusiasm was simply because he did not want to speak for the company, and "that he's enthusiastic and supportive of his former company's mission."</p><h2>The kids are alright</h2><p>Moore traded his role at one Khosla-backed company for another. In 2014, he went to work as <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/amyfeldman/2016/11/30/home-shopping-networkers-opendoor-is-upending-the-way-americans-buy-and-sell-homes/'sh=2ad099cc430c">head of product</a> at Opendoor before it came to markethiring in product, sales, and operations, and then growing the buyer side of the marketplace. Coincidentally, Opendoor was <a href="https://www.wired.com/2015/11/doordash-wants-to-own-the-last-mile/">located in the same building</a> as DoorDash's new digs in San Francisco.</p><p>He spent fours years at the real-estate company, which is <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/opendoor-net-income-revenue-going-public-spac-merger-chamath-palihapitiya-2020-9">planning to go public</a>by merging with a blank-check firm.</p><p>Now, Moore sits on the other side of the table from startups looking to raise capital. He's an investing partner at Khosla Ventures, where he writes checks into early-stage companies. Moore has demonstrated a knack for sourcing deals in real estate, with <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/apartments-become-silicon-valleys-hot-new-thing-11594123200">investments</a> in rental business <a href="https://www.alleywatch.com/2019/09/the-alleywatch-startup-daily-funding-report-9-10-2019/">Up&amp;Up</a> and <a href="https://techcrunch.com/2020/10/29/one-click-housing-startup-atmos-raises-another-4m-from-khosla-real-estate-strategics-and-tiktok-star-josh-richards/">Atmos</a>, a startup to simplify homebuying.</p><p>Moore did not respond to Business Insider's request for comment.</p><ul class="read-more-links"><li>Read more:</li><li><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/employees-investors-benefit-when-doordash-goes-public-2020-12">Here's who gets rich when DoorDash goes public</a></li><li><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/doordash-employee-salaries-revealed-2020-11">DoorDash salaries revealed: From $106,000 to $275,000, here's how much the $16 billion food-delivery company pays its full-time employees</a></li></ul><p><strong>SEE ALSO:&nbsp;<a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/employees-investors-benefit-when-doordash-goes-public-2020-12" >Here's who gets rich when DoorDash goes public</a></strong></p><p><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/who-is-doordash-fourth-cofounder-evan-moore-2020-12#comments">Join the conversation about this story &#187;</a></p> <p>NOW WATCH: <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/what-its-like-to-do-your-own-taxes-for-the-very-first-time-2018-2">July 15 is Tax Dayhere's what it's like to do your own taxes for the very first time</a></p>
