Irate youths under the aegis of Amalgamation of Ibeno Youth Forum, Ulok Ulok Peoples Assembly and the Ibeno Chapter of Ijaw Youth Council at the weekend protested at Ibeno demanding the immediate relocation of the corporate Headquarters of Exxon Mobil to the state. The youths, who gathered at the entrance of Exxon-Mobil on information that the newly appointed Managing Director of the oil company,Mr Paul McGrath, was in the state on facility tour, said refusal by the company to carry out the directive of the Federal Government could bring problem. The irate youths who carried placards with some inscriptions such as Exxon Mobil, dont take Akwa Ibom people for granted, Exxon Mobil, respect the directive of Mr President and relocate your headquarters to Akwa Ibom State among others, stressed that their protest was not meant to distract their visitor but was an opportunity for them to drive home their positions.Addressing newsmen, coordinator of the groups, Samuel Etoekere, saidthey were organizing the peaceful demonstration to welcome the new Managing Director of Exxon Mobil, Mr Paul Grath, believing that his coming will bring positive change to the community. Etoekere said Exxon Mobil should do what the Federal Government has directed them to do instead of putting up their usual deviant attitude, which always brings problems. Also speaking, Ibeno Chapter Chairman of Ijaw Youth Council, Robert Ekpadibe, expressed optimism that the appointment of a new Managing Director by Exxon Mobil will enhance community relations and compliance to the directive of the Federal Government, regarding the relocation of its corporate Headquarters to Akwa Ibom.Efforts to speak with authorities of the multi-national oil company over the incident however proved abortive.
