4-Star CB Prospect Myles Sims Commits to Michigan over Alabama, Auburn

Published by Bleacher Report on Fri, 07 Apr 2017

Atlanta's best prep defensive back is headed to Michigan. Four-star cornerback Myles Sims announced his commitment to Michigan on Friday, picking the Wolverines over Alabama, Auburn and other high-profile schools.Sims made the news official with the following tweet:Scout.com ranks Sims as the No. 80 overall player and 11th-ranked cornerback in the 2018 class. He's first among Georgia corners and sixth in the South.Equipped with offers from nearly every power in the South, Sims took his time making his decision. He took visits to multiple schools on their junior days, most notably Auburn, Tennessee and Duke. Alabama hosted him for two unofficial visits before his senior year, and he also took in Auburn's campus.Auburn was pegged as an early favorite by247Sports, but Sims stayed largely noncommittal. Florida also made a big impression when Sims went for a visit."It's definitely DB-U in my eyes," Sims said of Florida, per Zach Abolverdi of SEC Country. "Most of the DBs go to the league, and they have a reputation for being one of the best, if not the best. I feel like I can be the next Vernon Hargreaves to go to the league from Florida."Sims said he wanted to make a decision before his senior season to avoid it being a distraction."I don't really have any top schools right now, but I think probably before the season Ill be committed somewhere," Sims said. "Probably somewhere around the end of summer or maybe sometime in August before the season really starts up."Listed at 6'2 " and 173 pounds, Sims is a little on the big side for a cornerback. It's possible he'll wind up playing safety over the long term, and some recruiting services have him listed at the position. Sims would have to bulk up a bit on his lanky frame to make the transition to safety work.Michigan sits 16th overall in the 2018 recruiting class, per Scout.com. Sims is the fourth player to commit to the Wolverines and the fourth of 4-star distinction or higher. The Wolverines boasted one of the nation's top defenses last season, and continuing to land defensive recruits of Sims' caliber should keep them in the elite ranks.Head coach Jim Harbaugh tends to value versatility on the defensive side of the ball, as evidenced by the manner in which he deployed Jabrill Peppers in 2016.With Sims seemingly capable of playing both corner and safety, he figures to be a great fit in Ann Arbor.
