IPL Results 2017: Sunrisers vs. Royal Challengers Score, Updated Table, Schedule

Published by Bleacher Report on Wed, 05 Apr 2017

Defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad opened the 2017 Indian Premier League with a fine 35-run victoryagainst losing 2016 finalists Royal Challengers Bangalore at theRajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadiumon Wednesday.Yuvraj Singh was the key man for the hosts as he helped them to a total of 207 from their 20 overs with a rapid-fire 62.Clever bowling and consistent wicket-taking then saw RCB well restricted in their chase as Sunrisers made a winning start to the new season. Here's a look at the early standings following the first match, along with the upcoming fixtures:Sunrisers Hyderabad vs. Royal Challengers BangaloreSunrisers, 207 for four (Yuvraj 62, Henriques 52), beat Royal Challengers, 172 all out(19.4 overs, Gayle 32), by 35runs.Sunrisers were put in to bat after skipper David Warner lost the toss. The Australian opener was then dismissed after a fast start in the second over for 14.It did not stem the flow of runs for Hyderabad, though, as Shikhar Dhawan (40 runs from 31 balls) and Moises Henriques put on 74 together before the former was out, caught at deep mid-wicket, in the 11th over. That brought Yuvraj to the crease, and he looked explosive from the off, per Cricbuzz:Henriques fell for 52 from 37 in the 16th over, but Sunrisers, and particularly Yuvraj, continued to pile on the runs. The 35-year-old eventually was dismissed by Tymal Mills, but his 62 from just 27 balls proved the key knock of the innings, and Deepak Hooda and Ben Cutting added valuable late runs.In response, RCB were rapid out of the blocks. Chris Gayle (32 from 21) and Mandeep Singh (24 from 16) put on 54 together in less than six overs before falling in quick succession to spinners Hooda and Rashid Khan, respectively. There was no panic from the Royal Challengers, though, and Travis Head (30 from 22) and Kedar Jadhav (31 from 16) settled in for a very productive 50 partnership.A brilliant bit of fielding from Cutting saw him run out Jadhav with a direct hit from deep in the 12th over to interrupt RCB's momentum and turn the game. Cricket writerHarsha Bhogle was particularly impressed:Rashid then did for Head as the Australian was caught by Yuvraj on the boundary rope, and when Sachin Baby fell for just one in the 14th over, Hyderabad were firmly back in control.Shane Watson and Stuart Binny were at the wicket but could do nothing to swing the momentum back in their favour, and when the latter fell for 11, RCB were left needing 54 from just 19 balls. Two wickets in two balls in the 18th over by Ashish Nehra, a towering catch from Warner in the 19th and a smart run out from Chris Jordanadded a flourish to what was a very impressive victory for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
