Masters 2017 Par 3 Tournament Canceled Due to Inclement Weather

Weather has already put a damper on the 2017 Masters with Wednesday's Par 3 Contest being canceled due to rain storms at Augusta National Golf Club.The Masters Tournament announcedall play had been suspended due to the weather and the course will be closed for the rest of Wednesday.Per ESPN's Jason Sobel, the Masters Par 3 Contest has never been canceled prior to this year.Augusta.com tweeted out an image of what the weather in Augusta, Georgia, looked like at the time the course was closed:The Masters Par 3 Contest has been a tradition since 1960, with players taking part in a nine-hole, par-27 course that has a very loose atmosphere. Oftentimes golfers will have their kids caddie for them, or even let them putt the ball when it's on the green.No golfer has won the Par 3 Contest and the Masters in the same year. Jimmy Walker won the Par 3 Contest last year before finishing tied for 29th in the Masters.The 2017 Masters is scheduled to begin Thursday with the first group teeing off at 8 a.m. ET. Danny Willett is the defending champion and will look to become the first player since Tiger Woods in 2001-02 with back-to-back wins in this tournament.
