Dalvin Cook Reportedly Visiting with Browns Ahead of 2017 NFL Draft

Published by Bleacher Report on Mon, 03 Apr 2017

Former Florida State running back Dalvin Cook will meet with the Cleveland Browns on Monday, which could mean he's in play for the No. 12 pick.Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported news of Cook's visit. The Browns own the No. 1 and No. 12 picks in the first round. It would be a surprise of seismic proportions to see them pass on Texas A&M defensive end Myles Garrett with the first pick, so Cook becomes a more realistic option if he drops out of the top 10.Cook rushed for 4,464 yards and 46 touchdowns in three years at Florida State. He's considered one of the best all-around running backs in this class, ranked second behind only Leonard Fournette on many boards. Bleacher Report'sMatt Millerhas cook No. 39 overall on his draft board and fifth among running backs. If Miller's board winds up foreshadowing the way things go later this month, Cook might be available when the Browns pick at the top of the second round. Given their litany of needs at other positions, the Browns taking a running back at No. 33 might be more feasible than at No. 1 or No. 12.Isaiah Crowell and Duke Johnson provided a fine one-two punch at the position a year ago despite Cleveland's mess at quarterback. Crowell set a career high with 952 yards and seven touchdowns, averaging 4.8 yards per carry. Johnson was the team's third-leading receiver despite coming out of the backfield and added 358 yards on the ground. Most of these pre-draft meetings are just teams doing their due diligence. The Browns will likely meet with more than half of the players who wind up going in the first round before this process has concludedand that's not including time at the combine. It's possible Cook winds up in Cleveland, but the Browns would be hard-pressed to justify taking a running back early with all of their other problems.
