FCE Potiskum Shuts Down Over Unpaid Allowance

The Federal College of Education Technical, Potiskum, Yobe State, has embarked on an indefinite strike over the non-payment of their outstanding allowances and other demands from the management of the college.Investigation made by LEADERSHIP Weekend yesterday, show that the union members agitations led to the disruption of academic activities at the college and sent the students out of the campus and locked the gate of their hostels as well as classis areas.Sparking To LEADERSHIP Weekend , chairman of the COEASU branch, Mallam Saed Muktari said that the college management had refused to honour an agreement reached with the union sometime backHe said the agreement reached with the unions hinged on the payment of Peculiar Academic Allowance (PAA) among others.According to him, the academic staff of the college were been overworked yet their welfare had been thrown to the dust without any useful purposed.The union initially embarked on a warning strike in 2016.He said they embarked on the strike was embarked on because the college management is reluctant in solving the issues raised.The school management finds it difficult to look into the demands of the academic staff of the college, he said.The chairman added that;we ask the union members to take their destiny in their hands and to blow their own trumpet so that they can be heard. Otherwise nobody will blow it for them and their refusal to blow it will be tantamount to suffering in silentA vote of no confidence latter written to the minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu by the union dated 27/03/2017, reads in part,COEASU congress meeting held today Monday 27/03/2017 the COEASU congress FCE (T) Pot has mandated the COEASU executives to write and inform you thata motion was moved by congress member to pass a vote of no confidence on the leadership of the college members.
