Manchester United have reportedly inquired into the availability of Bayern Munich's versatile starlet Joshua Kimmich.According to Kicker (h/t Glen Williams of the MailOnline), the Red Devils are admirers of the 22-year-old, who has only made 10 starts for the German champions in the Bundesliga this season. It's suggestedManchester City, as well as two outfits from La Liga, are also monitoring the situation closely.Although he may not be a first-team regular at the Allianz Arena as things stand, Kimmich is expected to have a bright future in Bavaria. Here's a reminder of why he's rated so highly:The youngster has been a hit since his emergence at Bayern. Not only is he technically skilled and dynamic, his versatility has been an asset for manager Carlo Ancelotti and predecessor Pep Guardiola.Kimmich's best position is in the heart of midfield, where he can buzz around finding space, link the play together and use his passing range to dictate the course of the contest. But he's also excelled as a centre-back during his time at the club, and with the Germany national team, he's been brilliant as a right-back.Typically, Kimmich does a fine job in any of the roles he fulfils. As OptaFranz noted earlier this year, his Bundesliga record is near enough impeccable:He'd be a coup for United. Kimmich is a manager's dream, as he can thrive in different positions, works hard and still has a lot of progressing to do. Ideally, he'd be a brilliant foil for Paul Pogba at Old Trafford at the crux of the team. But it's difficult to see Bayern being open to a sale. With the club's legendary right-back Philipp Lahm set to retire at the end of the campaign, there will surely be opportunities for Kimmich to get more minutes on the field. Should he find himself in a similar situation in 12 months time, this type of speculation may carry more clout.Jose Gimenez Linked to UnitedAccording to Mundo Deportivo (h/t Calciomercato), Manchester United are ready to meet the 56 million release clause of Atletico Madrid centre-back Jose Gimenez this summer. It's suggested that a new centre-back is Mourinho's priority at Old Trafford this summer, and the Portuguese believes Gimenez fits the bill. The 22-year-old defender is said to have grown frustrated at falling behind Stefan Savic in the pecking order at the Vicente Calderon.Gimenez has long been rated as one of the most exciting young defenders in the game and has been key to Atletico being so tight at the back in recent seasons. However, the player's aggressive style has led to injury issues, while Savic's improvement has seen him emerge as an ideal partner for Diego Godin.Nevertheless, as WhoScored.com noted here, when he's started, Diego Simeone's side rarely concede:The centre-back position could do with strengthening in the summer for United, with the likes of Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo below the standard required for a side seeking to challenge at the summit of European football. Eric Bailly, as erratic as he may have been lately, needs a long-term partner.Gimenez is potentially that, and according to a report from Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News, the man himself is keen on the switch. Even so, 56 million is a lot of money to splash on a young player unfamiliar with the Premier League and with a sketchy fitness record.
