Tornadoes Not Desperate For Continental FootballBala

Published by Leadership on Wed, 29 Mar 2017

The coach of Niger Tornadoes FC, Abubakar Bala, has played down his sides chances of continental football, insisting that there is no form of desperation in the side to go continental.Bala, who was speaking to npfl.ng after his sides 2-1 victory over Sunshine Stars of Akure on Sunday, in a Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Week 15 encounter, in Lokoja, called the insinuation a distraction which could cause his lads to lose concentration. We lost numerous chances including the penalty, but we put in a strong performance in terms of character. I compliment the players for keeping their heads, even after the equaliser and we did well not to have lost our calm and stayed in the game at all times to win the match, Bala said.I wouldnt want to be talking about [continental football] now; its still early days [and we are] 15 matches from 38. We still have many rivers to cross, though we are in good stead now, as our performances keep on improving and the boys are playing with good mentality now.Im still on what I said before, our target this season is to finish in the top 10. I think we are getting there now. If we keep playing like we have done, improving and taking our scoring chances, who knows, we can claim the tickets [for continental soccer], but bringing that up now will put unnecessary pressure on us, the former FC Lokoja handler said.
