Ganduje Did Not Speak On Magu, AliKano Commissioner

Published by Leadership on Tue, 28 Mar 2017

The Kano State Commissioner for Information, Mr Mohammed Garba, has faulted a media report which claimed that Governor Abdullahi Ganduje hailed the Senate over its action on the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr Ibrahim Magu and the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Col Hammed Ali.Garba, who stated this in Kano yesterday while debunking the media report, insisted that the governor never spoke on the two distinguished officials.A Lagos-based national newspaper had on page 8 of its Sunday edition, came up with an headlineGhanduje hails Senate over rejection of Magu, Ali.But Garba has faulted the media report on the grounds that the body of the story did not support the headline, saying that the story is contrary to the headline.According to the commissioner, the governor only spoke on the need for the faithful to ensure the supremacy of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).Garba said, Governor Ghanduje could not have been speaking on what transpired in the Senate as he is the elected governor of the state. His Excellency is a very serious governor whose only concern is how to develop and transform Kano State. The report is mischievous as the headline is quite different from the body of the story. Governor Ghanduje has tremendous respect for government officials including the two distinguished officials and will not disparage them. The governor only spoke on party supremacy and the need for the party faithful to promote the interest of the ruling APC and ensure its supremacy accordingly. No where in the story is the governor quoted as commenting on the two individuals and what transpired in the Senate. The governor is a respected elected public official and he is a man of impeccable character who abhors pettiness and frivolities. As a journalist and former president of the National Union of Journalists (NUJ), I urge my colleagues to exercise restraint and be circumspect on the reportage of national issues.
