Arrest, Detention Of Chief Of Kurama Threatening Peace In Kaduna- AKurmi Youths

Concerned youths from the Akurmi nation has called for the unconditional release of their paramount ruler BGwan Kurmi (Chief of Kurama), HRH Dr. Ishaku S. Damina who has been under detention for over 48 hours now, stressing that his continued detention is against his fundamental human right and threat to peace.The concerned youths have also requested for an unreserved apology from the state government to both their chief and Akurmi nation for desecrating their traditional institution in total contradiction of the United Nations Declaration on the Right of the Indegenous People (UNDRIPS, 2007).Chief Damina was arrested on the 22nd March, 2017 following an invitation by the Nigeria Police and thereafter detained in prison ever since then.Speaking with newsmen in Kaduna at the weekend, the youth group through their leader Gideon Goma Adawa averred that, it will interest you to know that since the emergence of Bgwan Kurmi over the past ten years, the Akurmi nation and others within his domain have enjoyed enduring peace and stability.His peace -building capacity has been on display in amicably preventing, managing and resolving disputes. In his track-record as a professional and traditional ruler, portray him as a law-abiding and peace loving man.How can a man who complimented the effort of the government in curbing insecurity by facilitating the arrest of the most wanted. Kidnapper in Kaduna and Kano be accused of criminal conspiracy, assault and abduction' Is it a crime to facilitate the arrest and handover a wanted criminall to. A task force set up by government' Or is it because the criminal is a Fulani man the concerned youth asked.According to the concerned youth group, akidnapper was apprehended and taken to the chief who in turn handed him over to the task force alive, without knowing what happened to him thereafter, the fulani kinsmen came in search of him, only to petition against the chief to the state Government, accusing him of kidnap and abduction, criminal conspiracy and assault.The youth group posited that imprisoning the paramount ruler of the akurmi nation for no just reason is uncalled for and should therefore be addressed urgently.The Akurmi nation are predominantly found in Lere local government area of Kaduna state with a large number settling in Kauru, Kubau also in Kaduna State and also found in Bauchi and plateau states.Also speaking on the same matter, theNational youth leader of Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU) Nasir Jagaba described the arrest and detention of the paramount ruler as injustice and should be condemnable by every well meaning individuals.He alleged that security and peace is diminishing in Kaduna state, stressing that, Weare dissapointed with Governmentt of Kaduna state, the Governor is running a difficit democracy, the chief arrested has never been found wanting, infact, as I speak to you now, other chiefs from the area are equally being threatened. The present happening in Southern Kaduna is inhumane and regretable he said.
