Miami Open: Nadal, Konta Through To Third Round

Published by Leadership on Sun, 26 Mar 2017

Rafael Nadal breezed through to the third round at the Miami Open with a straight-sets win over Dudi Sela. The Spaniard needed just one break of serve in each set and saved both of the break points he faced to round out a 6-3 6-4 victory. After a day of rain and blustery conditions at Crandon Park, Nadal said: It was difficult to find the right feelings this afternoon, but its these kind of days where you have to just try to win. Thats what I did and I am very happy with that. This tournament is a tough tournament and anything can happen. I think I had a good week of practice, so I need to play good in the competition now to try and have success.Nadal will play the 1,000th match of his career in the third round against Germanys Philipp Kohlschreiber, who beat Taylor Fritz 7-5 3-6 7-6 (7/4).Second-seed Kei Nishikori encountered few problems on his way to a 6-4 6-3 win over South Africas Kevin Anderson. In the women category, British number one Johanna Konta battled her way past Aliaksandra Sasnovich in three sets in the second round of the Miami Open.Konta won the first set but, despite being 4-2 up in the second, lost it on a tie-break before coming through 6-2 6-7 (7-5) 6-4 against the Belarussian.
