Rudy Gobert Says Some Jazz Players Only Think About Scoring, Don't Compete

Published by Bleacher Report on Sun, 26 Mar 2017

The Utah Jazz are in the midst of a terrific season, leading the Northwest Division with nine games to play, but a recent stretch of four losses in five games has caused Rudy Gobert to put his team on notice.Following Saturday's 108-95 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers,Gobert wants to see the Jazz focus on every aspect of the game, per ESPN'sTim MacMahon:We've got guys that compete, but some of us don't compete. Some of us just think about scoring. That's what it is. ... Coach keeps repeating it: We've just got to compete. We're too nice. Those guys, we know they're going to get calls. We've just got to come out aggressive and ready to fight. With a 44-29 record, the Jazz have already clinched their first winning mark since 2012-13 and their most wins since going 53-29 in 2009-10.But Utah is mired in a late-season swoon. Its lone win since March 16 was a victory over the lowly New York Knickson March 22. The Clippers aren't a bad team to lose to, as they've clinched a playoff spot, but they are a foe the Jazz need to measure themselves against with the postseason on the horizon. As things stand in the Western Conference, the Jazz and Clippers would be matched up in the first round of the playoffs.Gobert is in his fourth season with the Jazz and has endured three losing campaigns before 2016-17. This is his first chance to be in the middle of a playoff race, and he doesn't want to see his team waste its moment in the spotlight.
