Steven Gerrard stole the show on Saturday as the Liverpool Legends won a friendly charity football match 4-3 against the Real Madrid Legends at Anfield.Michael Owen opened the scoring in the first half, and John Aldridge added to the tally after the break, with both goals coming off assists from Gerrard.The legendary midfielder then won a penalty, which Robbie Fowler converted to make it 3-0, and he finally got a well-deserved goal with 13 minutes left to play.Edwin Congo and Fernando Morientes scored consolation goals for the visitors, and Ruben de la Red added some late drama. The comeback fell short, however.The Liverpool's Echo's Ian Doyle shared the teamsheet, which featured a bunch of illustrious names:Patrick Berger dropped out of the Reds squad before the start of the match, however, and he had an odd reason for doing so, per This Is Anfield:As expected, Gerrard received the loudest reception when the teams were formally introduced, while there were some boos reserved for Owen. Before the start of the match, there wasa minute-long standing ovation forclub legend Ronnie Moran, who died on March 22.Luis Garcia was involved early on and headed the first chance of the match wide, while Luis Figo perhaps should have done better when he had acres of space, shooting over.The two kept exchanging blows, with the former missing an absolute sitter and the latter putting goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek to work for the first time.Garcia wasted yet another chance before Roberto Carlos became the first player to leave the pitch.The Brazilian full-back is not quite as fit as he once was following the end of his playing days, as shared by theLiverpool Echo:Clarence Seedorf was the next man to challenge Dudek before clumsily punting the ball out of play just moments later.The Real Madrid Legends had a slight advantage but fell behind when Gerrard and Owen linked up, with the former dinking a cross into the box and the latter heading home.Liverpool shared footage of the goal:The two found each other again shortly after, with Gerrard firing a volley straight at the goalkeeper.Real responded with a little more intensity, but Dudek stood his ground, making a superb save to deny Michel Salgado.Pedro Contreras also flashed his talent with a save on an effort from Garcia, but Dudek was the busier man, leading to this tweet from theLiverpool Echo:Dudek and Steve McManaman switched allegiances and donned the white Real kit after half-time, with plenty more substitutions still to come.Gerrard entertained the crowd with an ambitious bicycle kick that didn't even fly close to the goal, but he redeemed himself shortly after with a nice run and pass for Aldridge, who tapped the ball into the empty net.Anfield HQ loved it:Seedorf nearly scored a wonderful goal on the other side of the pitch, flicking the ball past his marker and blasting a shot inches wide.Aldridge should have added to his tally following a great attack, but the forward missed with two great looks and was taken off immediately after.His replacement, Vladimir Smicer, received a warm welcome from the Anfield faithful:Fowler smashed a shot of the bar, as more space became available following the latest round of substitutions. The Liverpool man converted a penalty Gerrard won off Dudek shortly after, with the home fans somewhat upset the midfielder didn't take it himself.Gerrard almost added a spectacular goal with a long-range effort that hit the bar, as shared by the Reds' official Twitter account:Real pressed for a late consolation goal, and Seedorf tried his luck with a free-kick that missed the mark.But the next goal fell on the other side, as Gerrard beautifully controlled a ball before smashing home a volley.Real got their consolation goals shortly after, scoring twice in quick succession. First, Congo converted a rebound, before Morientes showed his instincts haven't eroded.De la Red added some late excitement with a headed goal, but the unlikely comeback wasn't to be as time ran out.
