Reps Order Reconstruction Of Bauchi-Gombe-Yola Highway In 2017 Budget

The House of Representatives has mandated its committees on Works and Appropriation to include the reconstruction and dualisation of the Bauchi-Gombe-Yola federal highway in the 2017 budget.The House also urged the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to commence remedial in the federal highway so as to alleviate suffering of commuters who ply the road, at the same time, mandated its committee on Legislative Compliance to ensure implementation.The member representing Balanga/Billiri federal constituency of Gombe state, Hon. Ali Isa J.C, had in a motion called for reconstruction of the road, noting that it is the major road linking the states of Bauchi, Gombe and Adamawa.He also noted that a high volume of trade and economic activities among the people of northeast geo-political are conducted on the strategic highway.According to him, the deteriorating nature of road had affected movement of goods and other trade activities in the zone. Adding that it had resulted to increase in accidents, injuries and death for many.No maintenance has been carried out on the road for a very long time, it has deteriorated with large portholes and washed off shoulders. Insurgents and armed robbers are taking advantage of the deplorable condition of the road, he said.
