Gov Ortoms Convoy In Accident, NUJ Chair, Others Injured

The convoy of Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom, was yesterday, involved in a fatal accident. Several persons were injured and the official vehicle belonging to the Nigerian Union of Journalist s(NUJ), Benue State Council was damaged.The council chairman of NUJ in the state, Comrade Kris Atsaka, was badly injured, just as several other correspondents in the convoy were seriously affected. They are now receiving treatment in various hospitals.LEADERSHIP reports that the accident which occurred at about 4pm happened along Abakwa and Adi Etulo area in Buruku local government area of the state.Governor Ortom was returning from Zaki-Biam town where hevisited to assess the killing and massive destruction of homes by armed bandits, when the sad incident occurred.The accident was caused by oncoming vehicle, a Toyota Carina 2 that lost control and veered into the opposite direction, resulting to a head-on collision with the NUJ bus.The driver of the Carina vehicle and other journalists who were badly injured had been immediately rushed to the hospital. As at the time of filing this report, the health condition of the surviving accident victims were yet to be ascertained.Governor Ortom who was visibly sad described the accident as very unfortunate. He thanked God for saving the lives of the victims and directed that they should be immediately conveyed to the hospital for urgent medical attention.
