APC Can Field Candidate For Anambra Central Senatorial Election

Published by Leadership on Wed, 22 Mar 2017

Barrister Sharon Ikeazor has said that the All Progressives Congress (APC) can field candidates for Anambra Central Senatorial Election, urging the minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige to win the election for the APC.It would be recalled that a Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a suit seeking to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to accept her as a substitute to Dr. Chris Ngige.Justice Anwuli Chikere in her judgment delivered on March 14, 2017 said: The time for nomination, withdrawal or substitution of candidates for court ordered election in Anambra Central Senatorial District has elapsed. Adding that, there is no room for fresh candidates in court ordered election.Dr. Ngige can however contest the election as the court had earlier dismissed her suit to contest the election, stating that that the time for political parties to nominate candidates for elective position in respect of the elections had elapsed. Ikeazor who faulted news report that APC cannot contest the election in a statement made available to LEADERSHIP yesterday stated that the interpretation of the judgment is that the APC can still be part of the election, but the candidate must be Ngige, which according to her also has the capacity to win this seat for the APC. She however called on the National Chairman of the APC, Chief JohnOyegun, National Working Committee (NWC), the leaders and elders of the party and all members of the APC to encourage and support Senator Ngige to clinch this crucial Senatorial seat in Anambra for APC.
