Sheriffs 2019 Ambition Cause Of PDP CrisisMakarfi

Published by Leadership on Wed, 22 Mar 2017

The Senator Ahmed Makarfi faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) declared yesterday that the 2019 presidential ambition of PDP national chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, is the cause of the leadership crisis in the party. He said it will be a death sentence for the PDP if Sheriff becomes its presidential candidate in 2019.Makarfi, who spoke through spokesman of the National Caretaker Committee (NCC), Prince Dayo Adeyeye, stated this while reacting to Sheriffs declaration that God will determine his presidential ambition in 2019.However, Sheriff and Makarfi exchanged accusations over the blackmail of the Supreme Court, ahead of its judgment on the leadership crisis rocking the party.Sheriff, who spoke through his deputy, Cairo Ojougboh, stated this while accusing the Makarfi camp of boasting that they were in control of the Supreme Court however, insinuated that Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike influenced the Supreme Court judgment that upheld his 2015 governorship election.Adeyeye, who referred to Sheriffs statement as a veiled announcement or indication of intention to contest the 2019 presidential election, added that his (Sheriffs) effort at tearing the party apart is because he plans to present himself as presidential candidate. The NCC spokesman added that the former governor of Borno State, plans to hold a national convention that will rubber stamp him as the partys candidate. While Adeyeye said Sheriffs presidential candidacy under the PDP will be a delight of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the spokesman likened the aspiration of the ex-governor to that of a sparring partner who decides to challenge his former partner. There wont be a contest. He added that: I am not one of those who share the view that Sheriff has no good intentions for the party. All his efforts is geared towards hidden presidential ambition. He is doing everything within his powers to tear the party apart. It is imperative that all men of good will must see through this shenanigan. The masquerade has been revealed.Adeyeye, who called on all those are seeking reconciliation to have a rethink, added that there was no legal basis upon which Sheriff can call a convention, adding that while the former governor has the physical structure of the party, he does not have its soul.Meanwhile, Ojougboh, has declared that the Supreme Court cannot be bought and praised the Court of Appeal for refusing to be induced in whatever manner and standing up truly to its name while deliveringjudgment on the leadership crisis rocking the party.
