NULGE Lauds Ikpeazu Over Abia Council Elections

The President of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) Comrade Ibrahim Khaleel has extolled the courage of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State in conducting local government council election which many of his counterparts were shying away from.He said that as the second governor in the federation to do so, he has demonstrated that he is a real democrat who wants democracy to be practiced in all the three tiers of government.The NULGE President who spoke in Umuahia when the Abia state chapter of NULGE conferred on Governor Ikpeazu the award of Distinquished and Performing friend of NULGE for his favourable disposition to Local Government employees in the state, extolled the Governor for his harmonious working relationship with workers in the state as well as his open door policy.This singular act of yours shows indeed that you recognize the local government as the third tier and that you are a partner and supporter in the development agenda of the stateReceiving the award at a solidarity rally in his honour by NULGE, Abia state, at the International Conference centre, Umuahia, the Governor appreciated the union for the honour and described the award as the biggest that he has received.He said he was aware that NULGE was not given to unnecessary praise singing and must have come up with the award after due consideration.The governor said that his decision to conduct Local Government elections in the state despite the economic downturn was to deepen democracy at the grassroots.On the recent verification exercise in the local government council which exposed many fake certificates, he said the only way to raise a virile workforce was to ensure that the workers have the requisite qualificationsHe explained that his intention in ordering the the recent verification of staff of the local government system was not to send any one to the labour market.
