Butchers Flay Continued Sale of Donkey Meat In Delta, Seek Okowas Intervention

Published by Leadership on Sat, 18 Mar 2017

Butchers operating in Delta Central have flayed the continued sale of Donkey meat in the areas, and called on Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to intervene. Leader of the Butchers, Monday Ejiro in a protest letter issued yesterday and signed addressed to the governor a copy made available to our reporter, alleged that the continued slaughtering and sale of Donkey meat in the entire Delta Central, portends violation of the Butchers Union ban on Donkey meat in the areas stating that the meat allegedly portend infectious diseases and unhealthy.Part of the letter addressed to the governor reads: We humbly appeal to Your Excellency to move into the continued slaughtering and sale of Donkey meat, the meat had been banned for health reasons, and we do not want the meat for sale here in Delta Central. The statement further alleged that perpetrators of the slaughtering and sale of the Donkey meat are mainly Hausas who allegedly moved into the areas as cattle dealers, warning that their activities in regard to selling and slaughtering Donkey might spell doom if urgent steps are not taken to stop them from doing so.Investigation revealed that Donkey meat have flooded various markets across Delta Central; a situation residents including the butchers union described as a taboo for its alleged poisonous and its related act. But butchers of the Donkey meat, one of them, Sulaiman Dongo, described the protest by the butchers union as uncalled for and inhuman, dismissing the allegation of poisonous and its related act as untrue.
