House Owner Flogs Three Kids Over Alleged Fire Wood Theft

A house owner in Okpanam community near Asaba, Delta State (name withheld) has allegedly flog three kids caught in his building removing used planks for their parents domestic use.The incident which occurred in the early hours of yesterday in the community saw the community leader and a title holder in anger to have allegedly flogging the kids right inside his new building premises after they were caught by the labourers.It was gathered that the owner of the building under construction allegedly flogged the kids for frequent missing bags of cement and other materials in the recent time as the thieves are still unidentified when the unsuspecting kids played into his trap.Although no serious injuries were inflicted on the kids, but investigation revealed that the owner of the building had threatened before the incident to bring to book anybody caught stealing in the compound, especially by faceless hoodlums.Sources said that the kids often hang around the building under construction, and most times, assist the labourers to work particularly on weekend they dont go to school.Speaking to our reporter, the house owner who did not want his name in the print said: The pieces of planks being collected by whoever that needs them was not my problem, but I was angry that my bags of cement had been missing, including working tools, hence the kids were flogged.It was further gathered that parents of the victims primary school teachers had allegedly suffered untold attack by suspected hoodlums who carted away their cooking stoves, and following unpaid teachers salaries, they could not replace them; a situation they resorted to the use of fire wood.In a swift reaction, the victims father, Mr. Chuks Mgbokwu confirmed that the kids were flogged without injuries, adding that his family resorted to using firewood for cooking when armed hoodlums attacked them and carted away their stoves, including the high cost of kerosene. He however pleaded for the forgiveness of the sins committed by his children, disclosing he did distruct them to steal for the family.
