Palestine Marks International Solidarity Day

The Embassy Of Palestine in Nigeria recently on the 29th of November commemorated its International Solidarity Day at its embassy in Abuja. A day set aside to allow the Palestinian people freedom to exercise their right to self determination and end the Israeli occupation of the land of the State of Palestine.According to opening remarks of the Palestinian Ambassador, Saleh Fhied, You know dear friends that 2017 will mark the centennial of the Balfour Declaration of 1917 and the 50th anniversary of the Israeli occupation of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip in 1967 and leading to the 70th anniversary of the Nakba, the catastrophe which befell the Palestinian people in 1948.The Ambassador also mentioned agreements concluded by both sides since 1993, and that the commitment had to be reciprocated from the Israeli side , which would also include the recognition of the State of Palestine as well as work toward solving all final status issues and cease its settlement activities as well as put an end to its attacks and aggressions against our cities , villages and refugee camps and its policies of collective punishments and arrest and detention of thousands pf Palestinian prisoners in its jails.The representative of the Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mamoud Suleiman present at the occasion, reiterated Nigerias stand on the issue, a commitment to stand confidently to find a solution.As a promoter of peace, Nigeria has always favoured a peaceful end to the conflict in the Middle East ,while also recognising the state of Israel to exist.He added that Nigeria would be happy to see, Israel and Palestine existing side by side, sharing the same borders.Ambassador Suleiman equally stated that, The Federal Republic of Nigeria takes this opportunity to call on the Palestinian and Israeli government to relocate themselves and find a just solution to this conflict that has gone on for so long.Meanwhile according to the press statement released by the Palestine Embassy, and made available to LEADERSHIP Newspapers said, We are determined to continue working with our international solidarity partners and to persist in our political, legal and diplomatic efforts to ensure that the chances for peace and freedom have not been destroyed indefinitely. It is our hope that the Palestinian people will finally experience a situation free of the occupation and the grave injustices that they have been subjected to for decades.
