So many times I wanted to relapse but sat on my hands and begged God to relieve the obsession, she captioned a screenshot documenting her achievement. Im so proud of myself but I couldnt have done it without my higher power (God), my family, friends, and everyone else who supported me. Feeling humbled and joyful today. A post shared by Demi Lovato (@ddlovato) on Mar 15, 2017 at 3:36pm PDT At the height of her fame as a Disney Channel star, in 2010, the pop starchecked into rehabfor three months following a public exit from the Jonas Brothers Live in Concert tour.At one of her lowest points, Lovato heavily depended on cocaine to get her through the day, forcing her to take the drug everywhere she went, including airplanes.Something Ive never talked about before, but with my drug use I could hide it to where I would sneak drugs, she told Access Hollywood in 2013. I couldnt go without 30 minutes to an hour without cocaine and I would bring it on airplanes. I would smuggle it basically and just wait until everyone in first class would go to sleep and I would do it right there. Id sneak to the bathroom and Id do it.Lovato was later diagnosed with bipolar disorder, putting her on a path to become one of the most outspoken advocates for mental health in the entertainment industry. She recently served as the executive producer of Beyond Silence, a film documenting the struggles of three individuals living with mental health conditions.I wish that more people can understand from a point where its not a choice to have an addiction, she said on her three-year sobriety anniversary. And with bipolar disorder, its a chemical imbalance and its something that you have to figure out your own treatment with your own team. In order to do that, it takes timeFinally Im in a great place where I can say recovery is possible. -- This feed and its contents are the property of The Huffington Post, and use is subject to our terms.
