The Kano State Censorship Board (KSCB) intends to ban from release, a song composed by a popular artiste Sadik Zazzabi, who sang for Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. LEADERSHIPs investigation reveals that the artiste organised an event few weeks ago to unveil the hit track in Kano and shortly after, was invited by the State Security Service (SSS) to answer questions related to censors issues. He was asked why he intends to unveil the track without following due process through the states censorship board. It was also learnt that the artiste stood his ground and convinced the security personnel beyond reasonable doubt that he had already submitted his work to the board in order to fulfill his own part of the divide.LEADERSHIP was reliably informed that the story took another dimension, in which the singer raised an alarm that he is being deprived of his fundamental right in expressing his mind.In a recent interview with LEADERSHIP Hausa, Zazzabi stated that when he paid a visit to the SSS office, he was treated with much respect. The agency didnt harass or intimidate me. They are very professional. We discussed how and when the fracas started, he said.LEADERHIP gathered that the evidences Zazzabi presented made the security personnel to call on the two parties involved to go back and sort out things in a more professional way. Stating that there was no law that barred any singer from releasing a song any time he or she wishes. He said: It happened two weeks ago when I intended to release my latest song in which I praised my political idol, Eng. Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. I organised an award ceremony to honour him and other Kwankwasiyya movement members. I used that opportunity and launched the song.Accordingly, I went to Kano State Censorship for editing and verification. After they watched the videos, they asked me why I used malicious words in it. I answered them that, it is normal for a political poet to praise and defend his idol in anyway. But I never mentioned or abused anyone. He said.Few days after the event, the SSS invited him to explain how and why he marketed the song without censoring. But the artiste refuted the allegation and honoured the SSS invitation; where he explained that he only launched it during the event, and was yet to start marketing.I didnt break any law. I went to KSCB when I was about to launch the song. They asked me to come back. For some days after, there was no response. So I decided to launch it first before distribution. He said.LEADERSHIP learnt that, the SSS urged the two parties to settle the matter through dialogue rather than going to court, stating that they will never be used as machinery to intimidate anybody.Political thinkers are of the view that, KSCB has no right to ban the song, because, there are many of such songs in circulation in the state, sung by other poets, which have never been banned.
