NASS Committee On PIB Reforms Retreat Open In Uyo

A 4 day retreat of the National Assembly Joint Committees on Petroleum Upstream and Downstream as well as Gas opened on Friday in Uyo the Akwa Ibom state capital.Declaring the retreat open the state Governor Mr Udom Emmanuel said that the action of the Senators in coming together to brainstorm on the numerous challenges confronting the petroleum sector as timely.Represented by his Deputy Mr. Moses Ekpo, Governor Emmanuel explained that the importance of the bill to the people of Akwa Ibom being the highest oil producer in the country and generality of Nigerians cannot be over-emphasized.He enjoined the Committee to be painstaking in their deliberations in order to arrive at a proper solution to the problem confronting the petroleum sector.We are delighted tohost all ofyou distinguished Senators.I amsure you will find the serene atmosphere of our dear state goodto discuss all issues on the petroleum Industry bill to ensure its passage he stated.Welcoming participants to the retreat, Senator Bassey Akpan who represents Akwa Ibom North East senatorial district said that the retreat is coming on the heels of recommendations made by the NASS Technical Consultant on several challenges facing the oil sector.He explained that the committee was in Uyo to discuss issues that will focus on effective and institutional governance of the Nigerian petroleum industry.Akpan who is the Chairman Senate Committee of on Gashowever assured that with the retreat allissuesthat have impeded the passage of the PIB would be resolved to ensure its quick passage.
