The woman arrested for killing Kim Jong Un's half-brother thought she was pranking him for a TV show

Published by Business Insider on Fri, 17 Feb 2017

The Indonesian woman arrested for killing Kim Jong Un's half-brother may have been duped into carrying out the attack, according to Associated Press. In an extraordinary twist in the story of Kim Jong Nam's death, Siti Aisyah is reportedly claiming that was being filmed for a "Just for Laughs"-style hidden camera TV show when the attack took place.Indonesia police said Aisyah and others were paid to spray unsuspecting male strangers with water. She approached Kim Jong-Nam for the prank, police said, but her spraying device was loaded with a toxic substance."Such an action was done three or four times and they were given a few dollars for it, and with the last target, Kim Jong Nam, allegedly there were dangerous materials in the sprayer," Indonesia's national police chief Tito Karnavian told reporters, according to AP. "She was not aware that it was an assassination attempt by alleged foreign agents."Aisyah is said to have protested her innocence to Malaysian authorities about the assassination, which took place at Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 on Tuesday.Indonesian vice-president Jusuf Kalla said Aisyah is a "victim," pointing out that a true assassin would have disappeared without a trace. "Why would she go and stay in a hotel in the same city, so close to the airport' It can only mean that she was a victim and manipulated in this situation," he is reported to have told Indonesian press.Malaysian police are questioning three suspects: Aisyah, another woman who carried a Vietnamese passport, and a man they said is Aisyah's boyfriend.South Korea has been quick to accuse North Korea of dispatching a hit squad to kill Kim Jong Nam at the airport in Kuala Lumpur, saying two female assassins poisoned him and then fled in a taxi.North Korean diplomats in Malaysia have requested custody of Kim Jong Nam's body, according to AP. They have rejected the conclusions of the autopsy carried out by Malaysian officials earlier this week.Join the conversation about this storyNOW WATCH: The US government just sank a giant ship on purpose ' and the footage is amazing
