AIG To Corpers: Poor Salary Not Enough Reason To Be Corrupt

Says police force not a place to make moneyAssistant Inspector General of police, zone 6, Mr. Marafa Abububar, on Monday urged National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) members to be good ambassadors of their respective institutions after a successful service year, saying poor salary was not enough reason for anyone to be corrupt.He gave the admonition in his address at a seminar with the theme Start-up Corpers Calabar: Starting Early; the 3G Strategy, convened for the 2016 batch A and B corp members in Cross River State, held at the South-South Entrepreneurship Development Centre (SS-EDC) in Calabar.Represented by the AC Operations, Mr. Bunmi Osoko, the AIG, who was a guest speaker at the event, told the corpers that one can still become successful in life without indulging in any act of corruption.While emphasizing the importance in dignity of labor, he said with passion and determination one can still succeed in any endeavor, including the Nigeria police force.The reason of poor salary in the police or elsewhere is not enough reason for anybody to be corrupt, he said.The AIG adviced the outgoing corps members to be contented with the proceeds from their future endeavors, however little it may be, while legitimately striving for the best.He noted that contrary to the erroneous impression of some Nigerians, the Nigeria police force was not a place to make money.The AIG described the police force as a school of itself, where one is taught how to effectively fit into any strata of the society.The police job is the best job anybody can do in the world. The Nigeria police is the only force that interacts with all segments in the society.The police force is not a place you come when you want to make money; it is a place for service, he added.Earlier, the programme facilitator and batch A corps member, Mr. Mohammed Thompson, in a press statement saidStart-up Corpers Calabar, is a programme that connects corps members to opportunities and exceptional leaders and entrepreneurs for a better after service life.The speaker, Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. John Lebo, secretary to the state government, Mrs. Tina Agbor, the state coordinator of NYSC, were fellow speakers at the one day event jointly sponsored by Sterling bank, bank of industry, bank of agriculture, UNDP among other organizations.
