Police Seal Off Ondo Assembly Complex

Published by Sahara Reporters on Mon, 06 Feb 2017

Ibrahim Kpotun IdrisThe Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has sealed off the Ondo State House of Assembly Complex indefinitely pending the resolution of its leadership crisis.Malachi Coker, the embattled acting Speaker of the crisis-ridden Assembly, told SaharaReporterson Monday that the Inspector General of the Police, Ibrahim Idris, gave the orderon Sundayevening, following which security agents brought the warrant to the Assembly and then locked up the building.Mr. Coker further stated that the legislators adjourned their sitting indefinitely but told the police not to play any pranks on them, as that would be unfair."It won't be funny if the police would allow the other faction of the impeached Speaker (Jumoke Akindele) access into the hallowed chambers for parliamentary duties," he told our correspondent.Mr. Coker also explained that Governor Olusegun Mimiko has been making frantic efforts to resolve the crisis in the Assembly, including appealing to members through their kinsmen."We held a meeting with him during the weekend and he repeatedly begged us to sheathe our swords,' he stated. "We too have also tabled our conditions before him and said that before any dialogue at all, Jumoke Akindele must accept her impeachment.'He maintained that 20 out of the 26 lawmakers signed the impeachment notice ofMs.Akindele, and also denied that his faction was being sponsored by the incoming All Progressives Congress government. The crisis has been rocking the Assembly following the alleged discovery of a N15 million fraud under the leadership ofMs. Akindele. The allegation led to the impeachment ofMs. Akindeleand other principal officers by a faction of the lawmakers.Ibrahim Kpotun IdrisPolicePoliticsNewsAddThis:Original Author:Sahara Reporters, New YorkDisable advertisements:
