Chieftaincy Tussle: Court Orders Processes Be Pasted At Defendants Native Home

An Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan on Monday ordered that the court processes on the tussle over the traditional chief (Baale) of Olode in Oluyole Local Government Area be pasted on the door of one of the defendants, Mr. Dauda Odeyemi.The presiding judge, Justice Olalekan Owolabi said the court processes be taken to Ejo village, defendants native home, a distance of about 10km from Olode, as well as his family house at Kobomode in Mapo Local Government Area.Odeyemi is the fourth defendant in a Baale leadership tussle that also has the Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Adetunji; the Olubadan-incouncil and Oluyole Local Government as the first, second and third defendants respectively.It would be recalled that the Olubadan had on January 9, 2017 removed Chief Lukman Ilufemiloye Alao as the Baale of Olode in Oluyole LGA and immediately replaced him with Odeyemi in a circumstance that baffled many people.After the court proceedings, counsel to the deposed Baale, Mr. Sanni Oyedele, told journalists his client was not bothered about other defendants but the new Baale who was said to have been installedHe said the implications of pasting the processes was to let the fourth defendant have knowledge of the court proceedings, and that if he refused to appear in court again, an order would be taken behind him, without any accusation of lack of fair hearing.We are not bothered about the Olubadan, Olubadan -in-council or even Oluyole local government but we arebothered about the new Baale who they said has been installedThe implications of pasting the processes on his door is for him to have the knowledge about the court proceedings, and if refuse to come to court afterwards, then we will take order behind him and there wont be any question of lack of fair hearing, he said.In his ruling Justice Olalekan, before adjourning the case to March 7th for further hearing, ruled that the court ordered be served the fourth defendant through pasting on the door of his residential building as well as in his native village.
