PMB Orders Reconstitution Of Councils, Boards Of Varsities, Others

President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the Federal Ministry of Education to immediately reconstitute governing boards of all agencies under education ministry and the councils of all federal universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education .The President who was represented by the Executive Secretary of theNigeria Universities Commission, NUC, Prof Abubakar Adamu Raaheed at the 34th founders day and 26th convocation of the Federal University of Technology, FUT Minna , also directed the streamlining of courses in all specialized universities to meet the goals of establishing them.He stated that already the directive on new governing board for agencies and parasatals under the Federal Ministry of Education and the governing councils of universities has been handed down to the Minister of Education and after all the necessaries touches were effected the new boards and councils will be released.According to him It is important to reconstitute universities councils, I have approved the reconstitution of University councils and governing board of the parasatals of the Federal Ministry of Education, the Minister of Education will release the reconstituted councils and boards soon.Similarly, the President stated that he has directed that all specialized universities of Agriculture and Technology should streamline their courses to make them more relevant to the need of the nation.I am directing that as from the beginning of 2017/2018 academicsession only approved programmes in the universities will be allowed to admit new students he directed while insisting that specialized universities should not deviate from their core mandate.He stated that his administration recognized the importance of science and technology in the bid to effect positive change and national development hence government will continue to support science and technology education.
