European stock markets closed lower on M

European stock markets closed lower on Monday, with some recording their worst performance in three months, sparked by Donald Trump's temporaryimmigration ban. The FTSE 100 closed down 0.93%, or 66.99 points, at7,117.50, its lowest close of 2017. Germany's Dax, France's CAC40, and the Euro Stoxx 50 all suffered even bigger falls, each closing down more than 1% and recording their worst performance in three months. Michael Hewson, chief market analyst at CMC Markets, says in an email: "Its been a disappointing start to the week as we head towards the end of January, as investors digest the latest executive order from US President Donald Trump, which has prompted large-scale sell-offs across the board for European stocks, as concerns rise that the US may become a much less predictable place to do business."Join the conversation about this story
