The Gambia: PMB, African Leaders To Decide In Ghana Today

President Muhammadu Buhari and other African leaders will today take a decision on the political impasse in The Gambia.In a statement made available to journalists yesterday, the senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, Garba Shehu, said the meeting of the African leaders would hold in Accra, Ghana, after the inauguration of the countrys president-elect, Nana Akufo-Addo.Shehu said todays meeting was critical to the resolution of the crisis in the tiny West African country.He said, President Buhari and other African leaders will on Saturday be attending the inauguration of Nana Akufo-Addo as the president of Ghana.Another important thing is that shortly after the inauguration, the leaders will be meeting on the crisis in The Gambia. A major decision on the impasse is expected to be taken at that all-important meeting.Shehu added that, as the chief mediator in the crisis, President Buhari was committed to ensuring that the logjam is resolved.Also, President Buhari will today attend the inauguration ceremony of Ghanas president-elect, Nana Akufo-Addo, in Accra.In a statement by his special adviser on media, Fem Adesina, the Nigerian leader will join other heads of state and government to witness the swearing-in of the president-elect and vice presidentelect Mahamudu Bawumia.According to the statement, President Buhari once again congratulated Ghanaians on the peaceful elections and orderly transfer of power from an incumbent to an opposition candidate, just as he commended outgoing President John Dramani Mahama for his maturity and statesmanship in transferring power without any fuss.The president will return to Abuja at the end of the inauguration ceremonies, Adesina said.
