Larry Fitzgerald Discusses Future with Cardinals, Retirement and More

Published by Bleacher Report on Thu, 22 Dec 2016

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald is approaching the end of his 13th NFL season and has no thoughts of skipping town. However, he is trying to figure out just how much longer he wants to remain in theleague.Speaking with CBS 5 Arizona's Mark McClune on Tuesday, the 33-year-old made it clear that he wants to remain a Cardinal for the rest of his career, regardless of how many more years he plays:Fitzgerald would not hit free agency until 2018, and he's expected to make a base salary of $11 million next year, per Spotrac. He would be 34 when that happens, and it's unclear what his next contract will look like. However, Fitzgerald is still one of the most productive wide receivers in the NFL with a league-best 98 receptions for 949 yards and five touchdowns. It's further cemented his place among the game's greatest receivers ever:The one glaring absence from Fitzgerald's career resume is a Super Bowl victory, which he came tantalizingly close to in Super Bowl XLIII in a loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Cardinals have already been eliminated from playoff contention this year, and the drive for a championship could be the factor that brings Fitzgerald back for at least another. For now, the Cardinals and their fans will be entering winter with the uncertainty of losing one of the franchise's all-time greats.Stats courtesy of Pro-Football-Reference.com.
