Uyo Tragedy: NMA Donates Drugs To University Of Uyo Teaching Hospital

In a show of solidarity the Akwa Ibom state branch of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) donated drugs worth thousands of Naira to University of Uyo Teaching Hospital to help the victims of last week Church disaster in Uyo.The items were presented to the Chief Medical Director of the Hospital Professor Etete Peters at the Teaching Hospital Conference hall in Uyo.Presenting the items the state Chairman of the Nigeria Medical Association Dr. Aniekeme Uwah said the donation was a love gift to the Teaching Hospital and a gesture to share solidarity with the people of Akwa Ibom over the unfortunate incident of Church Collapse which resulted in untold casualties.The NMA Chairman expressed hope that the action would no doubt complement other donations to assure the survivors of the disaster ofpublic concern for their well-being.Receiving the donations on behalf of the teaching Hospital, Professor Etete Peters, Chief Medical Director of UUTH, described the NMA gesture as not only timely but a rare show of solidarity at a time when the state is still grappling with the unexpected tragedy.He explained that though the teaching Hospital was overwhelmed by the magnitude of the disaster but with the help of God the situation wasbrought under control.We have to mobilize all essential medical personnel to be on duty and attend to causalities brought to the hospital and all of them responded and worked tirelessly to ensure that no victims alive was left untreated.Your donations which would complements that of the Federal Government have really strengthen us, and wish to assure you that the drugswill be used for the purpose it was meant for the CMD stated.Professor Peters thanked the leadership of NMA and called on other organizations, public spirited individuals within and outside the state to come and support the altruistic gesture as exemplified by the medical body.
