Jonathan Obuebite, in a statement on the development,s aid the decisions by the state governor, Hon Dickson was a measure that has become imperative, in view of the recent upsurge in violence, and criminal activities of the cattle rearers in some parts of the country.Obuebite remarked that Governor Dickson is being proactive to avoid reported cases of such clash as it is in other some states. The information commissioner stated that by next year, Bayelsa would be a hub for agriculture and it would further strengthen the ties with other states in the country by way of attracting massive business opportunities in both buying and selling. While inaugurating the committee, Governor Dickson expressed delight that they accepted to be part of it by making themselves available, adding that it is public knowledge the challenges farmers and herdsmen face in other states but that is not the same in Bayelsa as herdsmen in the state have been conducting themselves in a peaceful manner. The governor praised security agents for their role in preventing any breach of the peace, maintaining that his government is keen on supporting herdsmen to be able to graze in a way and manner that would not cause a clash between farmers, just as plans are underway to go into animal husbandry.Dickson saidso we want to work with herdsmen to train our young people as the government is interested to develop ranches where they will pay taxes while they keep their cows, feed, kill and sell them.
