EU Donates e-library To CCB

The European Union (EU) has donated electronic library to the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).Speaking duringthe launching of the e-library in Abuja, on Monday, the Mr Polleak OK Serei, the Project Coordinator, EU Support to Anti- Corruption in Nigeria, said that the donation was part of efforts to help the CCB fight all forms of corruption.The project supports 14 Nigerian institutions with anti- corruption mandates at the federal level, including the Code of Conduct Bureau. One of the very first work the project did was to conduct an institutional capacity assessment of these 14 institutions, to ensure that the capacity-building support we provide is well targeted.Today we are handing over two sets of tools. One is a series of e-library licenses and computers. The second is strategic and analytical tools and computers.As far as the e-library is concerned, the institutional capacity assessment indicated that libraries of most anti- corruption agencies would benefit from updated capacity. To effectively pursue your mandates, law libraries which are regularly updated and readily accessible is a basic requirement. The E- law libraries are suitable for these purposes because of their portability and the regular updates provided by the content service providers,Serei said.The project coordinator said that concerning strategic and analytical tools, these are being distributed to those project beneficiaries with prevention and investigationfunctions.the EU will ensure that assistance provided is comprehensive, tailor made and sustainable as possible. For instance today, and for the whole week, some of your staff are being trained on strategic and tactical tools, he added.On his part, chairman of the CCB, Mr Sam Saba express thanks to the EU on behalf of the board, management and staff of his organization.That the e-library donated will enable the CCB to prosecute its cases more effectively. That we are benefitting from the partnership with the UNODC and the DFID, not only for equipment given but also in developing the capacity of our staff through their various programmes.
