Week 13 Waiver Wire: Projecting Best Adds, Drops and Future Handcuffs

Published by Bleacher Report on Tue, 29 Nov 2016

Week 13 represents the final game of the regular season in most fantasy leaguesone last chance to bolster a roster by scouring the waiver wire before hopefully earning a postseason berth and making the monthlong journey to a championship. The free-agent outlook this week is best for those teams seeking help at wide receiver. That said, there's also some solid help available at both running back and quarterback for those fantasy owners desperately searching for a late-season upgrade. So let's check out the most coveted targets ahead of the crucial week. That's followed by a look at some players who can be safely released and a few backfield situations to monitor moving forward.Week 13 TargetsTyreek Hill burst onto the scene with his 23-point performance in Week 12, but he's actually seen his value increase for more than a month. He posted back-to-back double-digit games in Weeks 7 and 8 while also reeling in 10 catches in Week 10.Adam Teicher of ESPN.com passed along comments from the Kansas City Chiefs' dynamic playmaker after his multifaceted breakout showing against the Denver Broncos on Sunday."Whatever they want me to do, I'm going to do it," Hill said. "I'm going to make the plays. If the ball comes to me, I'm going to make the plays. If it [doesn't], I'm full speed."Taylor Gabriel's situation is much the same as Hill. The Atlanta Falcons wideout has now scored at least 12 points in four straight games, highlighted by his 21-point outing Sunday. It's a streak that has a good chance to continue given the team's concerted effort to get him the ball in space.Kenneth Dixon hasn't scored more than seven points all season. The reason he's worth targeting is an uptick in his workload in a Baltimore Ravens backfield where nobody else has stood out. It gives him a golden opportunity to take over the No. 1 role during the fantasy playoffs.Adam Levitan of Fantasy Labs provided further details about the back's added work:Matt Asiata is far from the most exciting option given the plodding nature of his running style. Yet, the Minnesota Vikings lean on him heavily in the red zone, which has led to three straight games with a touchdown. His workload could also increase with Jerick McKinnon failing to find much success as the big-play back.San Francisco 49ers quarterbackColin Kaepernick continued his fantasy hot streak with a season-high 32 points in Week 12. He's now averaging 23.75 points per game over the past month. Those are starter-level numbers and warrant a roster spot as insurance heading into the postseason. Players to DropCincinnati Bengals QBAndy Dalton hasn't scored more than 21 points all year. That's frustrating at a position where fantasy owners want their starters to win a few games almost by themselves with monster scores. Add in the fact he's averaged less than 13 points over the past three games, and it's safe to move on.Any hope Christine Michael could revitalize his value after moving to the Green Bay Packers is quickly fading away. The team has kept leaning on James Starks, with Ty Montgomery and Aaron Ripkowski also battling for carries. It doesn't leave much upside for the veteran reserve.Nathan Jahnke of Pro Football Focus spotlighted the rusher's lack of involvement Monday night:Don't be fooled by Allen Hurns' touchdown in Week 12. It came on his only catch of the day, giving him just four grabs over the past three games. He's fallen clearly behind Allen Robinson and Marqise Lee in the Jacksonville Jaguars' pecking order, and a hamstring injury further complicates his short-term outlook.Tight end Coby Fleener hasn't scored more than seven points since Week 6 and has checked in at only 4.2 points per game since that last high-impact game. He's simply not involved enough to trust at this stage, even in an explosive New Orleans Saints offense.Handcuff WatchJaguars running back Denard Robinson has been an afterthought for most of the campaign. T.J. Yeldon and Chris Ivory have gotten banged up in recent weeks, however, opening the door for the Michigan product to finally get some touches. Don't be surprised if he starts a game or two down the stretch. The Seattle Seahawks are lacking depth at running back, and Thomas Rawls hasn't shown much over his first two games back from injury. Enter Alex Collins. The rookie out of Arkansas should receive an opportunity to prove himself in the coming weeks.John Boyle of the Seahawks' official website relayed remarks from the first-year back about transitioning in a new role after getting a lot more work in college:It's different. You go from being the guy and getting all the carries to rotating with some of the best guys in the world. It's definitely bettering because I get to learn from these guys, these veterans, and pick up stuff for my game. But it definitely works on your patience waiting your turn. You just keep working hard behind the scenes until it's time to show your capabilities.Running back Jonathan Williams falls into the category of a deep sleeper. He's still buried on the Buffalo Bills' depth chart, but he's seen a small uptick in usage during the season's second half and would be best equipped for a high-volume role if the regularly ailing LeSean McCoy missed a late-season game. All fantasy scoring mentioned is based on ESPN's standard format.
