NiMet DG Bags Fellow Of Astronomical Society Of Nigeria

Published by Leadership on Tue, 29 Nov 2016

In recognition of his contributions towards the growth and advancement of science and technology in Nigeria, the Director-General/CEO NiMet, Dr. Anthony Anuforom, has been conferred with the Award of Fellow of the Astronomical Society of Nigeria. .The induction took place during the 2016 Annual Conference of the society which was held at National Space Research and Development Agency in Abuja recently.Responding, Dr. Anuforom expressed his profound gratitude to the President and members of the society for the award and promised not to relent in the discharge of his duties. He noted that the use of scientific methods for the general wellbeing of Nigerians is a never-ending task scientists must apply themselves to.He therefore called for increased collaboration between the agencies especially in the area of research, stressing that the synergy would impact positively on the nations space programme as well as the power sector.Dr. Anuforom further stated that this is an emerging area of research that we believe NiMet can collaborate with NASRDA and ASN in space science and technology, which can assist in power system management. We need to key in as a country and as an agency, and working together as organisations, I believe we should be able to make contributions to national development in this regard. This is because some phenomena in the outer space do affect satellite telecommunications and the power grid systems. So there is a need for research in these areas to better manage our nations infrastructure like telecommunications and power.
