PDP Leadership Crisis: Makarfi And Sheriff Renew Hostilities

Published by Sahara Reporters on Thu, 17 Nov 2016

Sheriff addressing audience at press conferenceThe Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leadership crisis has intensified as Senator Ahmed Makarfi and Senator Ali Modu Sheriff renewed hostilities this week. The two senators have been engaged in a power tussle for the past several months, with each claiming leadership of the party. Mr. Makarfi and Mr. Sheriff reignited their clash when each accused the other of plotting to subvert the PDP, Punch reported.Mr. Makarfi, the chairman of the PDP national caretaker committee, alleged that his rival is an agent of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Dayo Adeyeye, spokesperson for the Makarfi faction, said that Mr. Sheriff was spreading lies to PDP members and is clearly working for the APC.'We wish to state clearly that Ali Modu Sheriff and his ilk are known enemies of our party, planted to destabilize the vibrant party that provided good leadership for the country for 16 years,' Mr. Adeyeye said.He added that Mr. Sheriff never criticizes the APC, saying 'We say clearly that not once has Sheriff and his team of confused travelers said a word against the misgovernance of the APC. We are not surprised because we know it's suicidal for a servant to criticize his master.'Retorting, Mr. Sheriff described Mr. Adeyeye as a 'self-aggrandized spokesman,' adding that the Makarfi-led caretaker committee was legally disbanded and therefore illegitimate.'All the members of the outlawed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee are, hereby, stopped from further parading themselves as individuals or groups acting as national officers of the Peoples Democratic Party,' he said. The renewed hostilities between the two senators are coming just ten days before the Ondo State governorship election.Sheriff addressing audience at press conferenceSahara ReportersPoliticsNewsAddThis:Original Author:Sahara Reporters, New YorkDisable advertisements:
