Ogun To Get $30m Aid From French Devt Agency

Ogun State government is set to benefit over $30m in aid from the French Development Agency (FDA), as part of efforts to improve its infrastructure especially in the area of water resources.This was disclosed on Wednesday by the state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun while receiving the Country Director of the AFD, Mr Olivier Delefosse at the Government House in Abeokuta, the state capital.According to the governor, the French outfit has pledged to help solve some of the challenges facing the state saying the intervention will be in the area of environment, getting rid of slums, water resources and support for SMEs.He said, For instance they talked about the Abeokuta water scheme and on that they are helping us in a very big way because they are investing over $ 30 million on that, just in Abeokuta and we have talked about three to four other locations.We cant do it alone But, we can create the enabling environment where they can begin to believe in us and we would do it to a level where they will believe in us that we are serious and they will be convinced to assistus.On the commitment of the French government to the project, Amosun added, Yes earlier today they signified their intention toassist MSEs and this is very important to any nation who must succeed.In his remarks, the country director, Mr Olivier Delefosse said his agency was ready to work with the Ogun state government in the area of agriculture, environment, water resources assuring that work will begin next year.He said , This is my first visit to Ogun state, although have been in Nigeria for one year, We are a French agency and we are already supporting your state on water programme and work should start next year and we want to see what next and in what sector is it on agricultural, environment,water and son on. We have discussed and we are looking at how we can help the state and Iam happy being here in Ogun state and tomorrow we would be going to thefield for inspections.
