Packers vs. Falcons: Score and Twitter Reaction from 2016 Regular Season

Published by Bleacher Report on Mon, 31 Oct 2016

First, Aaron Rodgers lost all his running backs. Then he lost his receivers-turned-running backs. So on Sunday, Rodgers decided to do it all himself. It just wasn't enough.Matt Ryan found Mohamed Sanu for an 11-yard touchdown with 31 seconds remaining, giving the Atlanta Falcons a thrilling 33-32 win.Ryan threw three touchdowns, all going to different receivers, and navigated the field well against a game plan designed to take Julio Jones out of the game. He completed 28 of 35 passes for 288 yards, with Sanu at the receiving end of a team-high nine balls. Sanu's 84 yards were a career high as a member of the Falcons. The NFL provided the game-winning score, which came amid a drive that saw the pair connect five times:Taylor Gabrieland Devonta Freeman also hauled in touchdown passes. Jones, who saw near-constant double-teams and bracket coverage from the Packers secondary, finished with three catches for 29 yards. Ryan targeted him a season-low five times.Michael Fabiano of NFL.com commented on the fantasy implications:The game-winning drive came immediately after Rodgers seemingly orchestrated one of his own.Rodgers capped off a 13-play, 86-yard drive with a seven-yard pass to Jeff Janis with just under four minutes remaining.Janis was the fourth Packers pass-catcher to haul in a touchdown. Playing without Randall Cobb and Ty Montgomery and with Eddie Lacy and James Starks out of the lineup, Rodgers was essentially forced to hoist the team on his back. He completed 28 of 38 passes for 246 yards, adding a career-high 60 yards on the ground on six carries.Tyler Dunne of B/R complimented Rodgers' performance:The Packers for the second straight week essentially abandoned the run. Don Jackson got the start at running back but was rendered almost completely irrelevant, finishing with four carries for 10 yards. Recent acquisition Knile Davis got three touches and produced only four yards. Their best traditional back was actually fullback Aaron Ripkowski, who produced 34 yards and tied Rodgers with a team-high six carries.Tom Fornelli of CBS Sports noted he is Wisconsin royalty:Luckily, what was left of the Packers receiving crops came to play. Jordy Nelson led all players with 94 yards receiving and hauled in a first-quarter touchdown. Davante Adams took over the Cobb role and produced 12 catches for 74 yards.Trevor Davis and Geronimo Allison also caught touchdown passes. ESPN Stats & Info passed along a not-so-surprising fact:The game itself was a back-and-forth affair, with neither team having a distinct advantage. The largest lead of the game was eight points, and the two teams traded the lead six times. Atlanta produced just 36 extra yards and had only one more first downthe former thanks mostly to Rodgers being sacked three times. The Falcons were actually outrushed by Green Bay's makeshift ground game. Freeman produced just 35 yards on 11 carries, whileTerron Ward led the way with 46 yards on six carries.Atlanta's win snaps a two-game losing streak, both of which came by one score. The Falcons were in danger of dropping to 1-3 at home and losing their grip on the division lead; the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' loss earlier Sunday put them one behind in the loss column. The Packers now sit two games behind the Minnesota Vikings in the loss column, though Minnesota plays the Chicago Bears Monday night. They're now sitting firmly in the wild-card muck with a ton of solid, but flawed, teams vying for the two spots. With a home matchup with the Indianapolis Colts coming next week, Rodgers' fingers will be crossed he'll have a little more help in seven days.Post-Game ReactionRodgers discussed the contributions of young receivers and how the Packers are dealing with injuries:Rodgers continued, telling reporters: "I'm proud of the guys and the way they battled. This will be an important time for us to stick together and see if we can go on a run."Falcons coach Dan Quinn talked to reporters about Ryan's performance:Matt managed the game. We didnt have to rush. Knowing the quarterback on the other side was on point (had something to do with it).Quinn also commented on winning a close game: We wanted a game like this."Follow Tyler Conway (@jtylerconway) on Twitter.
