Donald Trump's Twitter bot is 'running for president

Published by Business Insider on Wed, 19 Oct 2016

Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are about toface offin the finalpresidential debate, but one morecandidate still wants to enter the race.Crude, nonsensical, and nonhuman, hisname isDeepDrumpf. He'saTwitter bot programmed tomimic the real Trump. MIT researcherBradley Hayes createdDeepDrumpf in Marchas both a coding experiment and joke, though it has taken on a life of its own.DeepDrumpf usesan artificial intelligence algorithm based onhours of the candidate's debate speech transcripts, Hayes previously told Business Insider.Every fewhours, the bot tweets gems like"I'm what ISIS doesn't need" and "I was screaming jobs and extremists, not policy." The more it tweets, the smarter it gets, because Hayes also incorporateddeep learninginto its algorithm, meaning it continually learns from itself.I'd like to beat that @HillaryClinton. She is a horror. I told my supporter Putin to say that all the time. He has been amazing.' DeepDrumpf (@DeepDrumpf) April 6, 2016The next phase of the project, which recentlywent live, is afundraising site masquerading as DeepDrumpf's presidential campaign. Near the top, the site reads "Make S.T.E.M. Great Again" and points towardsa GoFundMe page. The real goal is actually to crowdfund money for GirlsWhoCode, anonprofitdevoted toclosing the gender gap in STEM fields (Only 18% of computer science graduates are women). So far, the GoFundMehas crowdfunded about $700.The fundraising campaign launched a few days after audio of Trump makinglewd commentsabout women in 2005 leaked.Hopefully, DeepDrumpf will raise a lot of money for an organization that empowers the next generation of women in an industry that traditionally leaves them out.SEE ALSO:Donald Trump's attorney: Trump's sexual-assault accusers 'aren't even women he'd be attracted to'Join the conversation about this storyNOW WATCH: Here's why the time is always 9:41 in Apple product photos
