Bayelsa Teachers Meet Gov Dickson, Agree To Resume Work

Striking teachers of government owned primary and secondary schools in Bayelsa State, yesterday met with Governor Seriake Dickson over unpaid salaries and allowances, and declared readiness to resume teaching following agreement on the modalities of payment of salaries.Governor Seriake Dickson, in a statement issued yesterday by the State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon. Jonathan Obuebite, expressed sadness that up till now students in public schools are still at home and noted that they would be lagging behind compared to their mates in other states and schools.According to the statement, the meeting between Dickson and the teachers was in commemoration of the World Teachers Day in the state.According to the statement, At the meeting solutions were proffered and the governor also thanked the principals for their show of understanding and support so far to his administration.The governor pointed out that teachers are group of people in the society that he holds in high esteem because of their role in moulding future generations and as a result his government will never toy with them.Dickson after listening to some of the complains by some principals assured them that henceforth teachers would be paid first every month.
