Josh Norman to Appeal Fine for Interception Celebration: Details and Reaction

Published by Bleacher Report on Thu, 06 Oct 2016

Washington cornerback Josh Norman said he will appeal the $10,000 fine the NFL levied against him for his celebration penalty during Sundays 31-20 victory over the Cleveland Browns, per John Keim of ESPN.com.Norman tallied a critical interception in the fourth quarter and shot an imaginary bow and arrow, which drew the flag.According to Keim, Norman saidhe was previously warned about the celebrationbut thought he would receive another warning instead of a penalty because it was a different officiating crew. The defensive back discussed his appeal approach and his mindset on the fine, per Keim: "I have my speech on it, and well see what happens. I hope and pray they eliminate the $10,000 fine. That was too much. At the same time, well see how it goes, and whatever the outcome is, I respect it, and I respect the league and what theyre trying to do."Norman is no stranger to fines. The league fined him $48,620 after Washingtons Week 3 win over the New York Giants when he picked up an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for a hit on wide receiver Sterling Shepard. It also fined him $26,044 last year when he was a member of the Carolina Panthersfor two incidents in head-to-head showdowns with wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., per Keim.Norman and the receiver have famously jawed at each other the past two years, and the league fined and suspended Beckham for launching himself at the cornerback and hitting him in the helmet last year.Keim noted Norman doesnt understand why his bow-and-arrow celebration drew a flag and said he "might have to ask fans" what he should do if he can no longer celebrate that way.The 2015 first-team All-Pro member will have a chance to demonstrate any new celebrations Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens as Washington attempts to win its third straight game after an 0-2 start.
