Jack Wilshere is reportedly set to join Premier League side Bournemouth on loan. The England midfielder appears set to sign a season-long deal with the Cherries, but he's not the only young Arsenal star prepared to leave the north London club on transfer deadline day, with winger Serge Gnabry returning to Germany on a permanent deal.BBC Sport's David Ornstein revealed Wilshere will move to Bournemouth after the Gunners knocked back an approach from Serie A side AS Roma:The interest from Roma was extensive, according to Ornstein, with talks progressing before a deal collapsed:Ornstein also revealed one reason why Wilshere isn't moving to the Italian capital. It stems from Arsenal's previous interest in Greek international centre-back Kostas Manolas:Staying in England's top flight is actually better for Wilshere than moving to Serie A. In particular, a move to Bournemouth could work wonders for the 24-year-old, whose career development has stalled during recent seasons in north London.Joining Bournemouth would mean Wilshere will be working in a side committed to playing attractive, passing football. It's the style manager Eddie Howe favours, and one conducive to Wilshere's main strengths, specifically his technique on the ball.Wilshere should also be guaranteed the regular game time he desperately needs at Bournemouth. His presence can be a boost in the club's bid to avoid relegation from the Premier League.Bournemouth are currently second from bottom in the division, but Howe, who has been tipped as a replacement for Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, will count on a skilled midfield trio to help get the Cherries out of trouble. It's a group already featuring creative players Harry Arter and Andrew Surman. Wilshere would combine well with the pair thanks to his own creative temperament. He's also close friends with ex-Arsenal academy striker Benik Afobe, who joined Bournemouth last season.Wilshere needs to make the most of any loan spell. A plethora of injuries have ruined his progress at Arsenal. But as much as fitness issues have plagued him, Wilshere has also suffered through off-pitch issues. Not only that, but he still hasn't found an ideal position for his mix of flair and tenacity. Wenger has played Wilshere deep, in an advanced role, and even on the flanks, but the diminutive No. 10 hasn't been consistent in any one slot. Those problems have left Wilshere out in the cold at Arsenal, where Wenger can rely on ample talent in midfield areas. Granit Xhaka, Mesut Ozil, Santi Cazorla, Aaron Ramsey, Francis Coquelin and Mohamed Elneny are all ahead of Wilshere in the pecking order. Gnabry Signs for Werder BremenWilshere isn't the only fringe player who has been moved on by the Gunners. Gnabry has joined Bundesliga side Werder Bremen in a deal worth 4.25 million, according to the club's official site (h/t the Daily Telegraph). The same source relayed comments from Gnabry about his return to Germany:"It was important for me to come to a club who could give me the chance of getting some match practice."This deal may rate as a mild surprise after Gnabry thrived for Germany at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. The 21-year-old finished as the joint-top scorer at the Games after finding the net six times, per FIFA's official site.Yet, like Wilshere, Gnabry's club development had stalled. He showed immense promise as a breakthrough player at different times during the 2012/13 and 2013/14 campaigns. However, a lengthy injury spell was followed by a disastrous loan at West Bromwich Albion, where he barely featured last season. In that time, Alex Iwobi broke through at Arsenal, while teenagers Jeff Reine-Adelaide and Chris Willock are also showing tremendous promise.Gnabry had just one year left on his deal, so getting money for a prospect who originally cost only a nominal fee when he signed from Stuttgart as a 15-year-old in 2010 represents decent business for the Gunners. There had been talk of Gnabry signing for Bayern Munich after his father gave an interview to German publication Stuttgarter Zeitung, but Bremen director of football Frank Baumann moved quickly to dismiss those suggestions (h/t ESPN FC).Arsenal have the talent and depth to cover for the loss of both Gnabry and Wilshere. The latter needs game time to get his career back on track, but that's a luxury title-chasing Arsenal can't afford to indulge this season, so it makes sense to loan Wilshere out to a team that can.
