How drones are turning everyday citizens into superheroes

Drones are turning more people into heroes everyday.Most people associate consumer drone flight with cool aerial photography or video shooting. But people all around the world are stepping up to use their drones for good. Specifically, to aid in search and rescue missions.But even though drones have successfully helped people in need, there are still regulatory hurdles to overcome before this kind of drone use can become commonplace.Here's a look at the people using drones in emergency situations and the barriers preventing drones from reaching their full superhero potential:Software engineer Garret Bryl decided to become a drone volunteer for the Joshua Fire Department in Texas after some encouragement from his wife. "My whole family has the philosophy of 'if you have a talent or a gift, you should use that for good,'" he told Tech Insider.So he sat down with the fire department's chief, Wayne Baker, to see how he could help. Shortly after, he began scenario training. Bryl practiced flying his drone at the time, DJI's Phantom 3, with life vests attached to it to deliver to people in emergency situations.RAW EmbedOne day in May, Fort Worth, Texas experienced terrible flooding.
