Start 'Em, Sit 'Em Week 16: Latest Fantasy Lock and Flop Predictions

Published by Bleacher Report on Fri, 25 Dec 2015

The Pittsburgh Steelers are loaded with high-end fantasy talent, and Mike Tomlin's team has been producing every week. The Steelers have scored 30 or more points in six straight games, and they are in a position to earn a spot in the AFC playoffs if they can win their final two games of the season. It's all lining up to be a happy holiday season in Pittsburgh because they close the year with games against the battered and bruised Baltimore Ravens and the Cleveland Browns.Motivation is never a problem for the Steelers when facing the Ravens, and it should be a powerful factor once again in Baltimore. The Ravens have beaten the Steelers in four of the last five meetings in this hate-fest, and as much as the Steelers want to make the playoffs, they get an additional kick out of getting a little payback against the Ravens.Nobody should be in a better position to have a big game against the Ravens than quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. When he is in the lineup, the Steelers nearly always produce. The lineup of big playmakers is sensational, and Roethlisberger's presence under center means that wide receivers Antonio Brown, Martavis Bryant and Markus Wheaton are all likely to produce big plays.Roethlisberger has completed 67.9 percent of his passes for 3,369 yards, and while he has thrown just 18 TD passes, he has started only nine games due to injuries.Roethlisberger is relatively healthy now, and the Ravens just don't have the manpower to compete with him. The Steelers may reach 40 points or more in this game, and Roethlisberger should be good for 300 yards and three TD passes.Make sure Big Ben is in your fantasy lineup.Fantasy LocksRB David Johnson, Arizona CardinalsThe Arizona Cardinals are a much different team this year compared to the walking wounded/infirmary they were a year ago.Injuries kept the Cardinals from playing past the wild-card round of the playoffs following the 2014 season. That should not be an issue this year, because the Cardinals are likely to have a first-round bye. When they take the field at home this week, they will have a healthy Carson Palmer at quarterback. That's something they did not have a year ago. They will not have to depend on Palmer for the whole of their offense in Week 16. That's because David Johnson has been running like one of the best backs in the NFL.Johnson inherited the starting running back job when Chris Johnson (fractured tibia) got injured. He has been the Cardinals' primary running back for the last three games, and he has put together rushing totals of 99, 92 and 187 yards. He also ran for three touchdowns last week against the Philadelphia Eagles.Look for Johnson to have another big day against the Green Bay Packers. The Packers rank 22nd against the run, and Johnson has the speed to burn them badly.Make sure Johnson is in your fantasy lineup.WR Mike Evans, Tampa Bay BuccaneeersIt has not been all rosy for Mike Evans this season. While he is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' leading receiver with 66 receptions for 1,046 yards with three touchdowns.Evans has been targeted 130 times this year by Jameis Winston, so that means nearly half of the passes thrown in his direction have been unsuccessful.Nevertheless, we are all in on Evans this week when the Bucs host the Chicago Bears. Tampa Bay head coach Lovie Smith served in that same capacity for nine years with the Bears before he was fired at the end of the 2012 season. Now he gets a chance for some payback with a team that is capable of lighting up the scoreboard behind an improving rookie quarterback and a big-play receiver.Smith would never talk about revenge, but he has a chance to show his old team what they are missing. Evans is coming off a nine-catch, 157-yard performance against St. Louis in Week 15, and he should be ready for another big effort here.Evans needs to be in your fantasy lineup.TE Julius Thomas, Jacksonville JaguarsAfter an injury-plagued start to the season, Julius Thomas has gotten comfortable in the Jacksonville Jaguars offense.Thomas made his bones as a big-play tight end with the Denver Broncos, as he was on the receiving end of Peyton Manning's passes through 2014. After a slow beginning to his Jacksonville tenure, Thomas has become a key factor in the Jaguars' game plan and in fantasy football.Thomas has caught 42 passes for 431 yards and five TDs this season, but those numbers mask how effective JT has been recently. He has caught TD passes in four of his last five games, and he should play a key role this week when the Jaguars play at New Orleans. The Saints rank 31st on defense, and tight ends have feasted on them this season. That makes Thomas a must-play in fantasy football this week.Fantasy FlopsQB Eli Manning, New York GiantsThe Giants have been a maddening team this season. While they often play well against high-level teams like the New England Patriots and the Carolina Panthers, they have failed to finish a boatload of games where they've been leading in the fourth quarter. As a result, the Giants are scrambling to remain relevant in the NFC playoff race. They are still alive as they prepare for their Week 16 game at Minnesota, but just barely. The Vikings are the kind of team that should get the Giants' full attention and prepare them to play a tough and intense game. However, the Giants are without superstar wideout Odell Beckham Jr. (suspended), and Manning is going to get frustrated without him.The Vikings have the 13th-ranked defense in yards allowed and they usually control the game when they play at home. Manning will have less than 200 yards and only one TD pass.Do not put him in your fantasy lineup.RB Devonta Freeman, Atlanta FalconsDevonta Freeman looked like one of the best running backs in football for the first half of the season. But just like his team, Freeman's production went down the tubes in the second half of the year. While he was voted into the Pro Bowl, don't expect much from Freeman this week against the undefeated Carolina Panthers.Freeman has rushed for 907 yards and 10 touchdowns, but Freeman has not rushed for 100 yards or more since Week 7 against Tennessee. He was held to 40 yards by the Panthers in Week 14, and that's about where he is likely to end up this week.Keep Freeman on your fantasy bench.WR Demaryius Thomas, Denver BroncosDemaryius Thomas had a strange game in Week 15 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He caught five passes for 61 yards at Heinz Field, but he got into the end zone twice. That was a shocker because Thomas had scored just two touchdowns in the 10 games prior to the encounter with the Steelers. The Broncos have had an ordinary year in terms of offensive production this season. They rank 23rd in yards gained, and that's not a surprise because Peyton Manning was ineffective under center and Brock Osweiler has largely had a conservative game plan since he became the starter. On Monday, the Broncos host the Cincinnati Bengals in a key game, and look for head coach Gary Kubiak to depend on his defense and his running game here.Thomas will be involved in the offense, but he won't catch any deep throws. Keep Thomas on your fantasy bench this week.He won't have more than 50 receiving yards and he is not likely to score.
