7 'Star Wars' Theories That'll Change How You See 'The Force Awakens

Published by Huffington Post on Sun, 27 Dec 2015

It's true. All of it. The Dark Side, the Jedi -- they're real. But what about these theories'While "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" obliteratesbox office records, its lingering questions are blowing our minds even more. Who are Rey's real parents' How is she so great at using The Force so quickly' And will Finn ever find out if Rey has a cute boyfriend'These are just a few of the mysteries, but according to these theories, the answers may be right in front of our faces. Here are seven theories that'll totally change how you see "The Force Awakens:"1. Leia and Luke have a sibling. Image: Disney/YahooAn editor at Micrecently noticed a possible error in the "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" opening crawl. The sentence in question refers to Leia and reads, "She is desperate to find her brother Luke and gain his help in restoring peace and justice to the galaxy."As Mic explains, it's missing very important commas around Luke:The commas are necessary because "Luke" is not essential to the meaning of the sentence"brother" is. His name is unnecessary information, as Leia has only one brother, meaning it should be offset by commas.Because it seems suspicious that the very first part of the biggest movie of the year would have such an error, it's speculated that this could be a huge spoiler for the next movies. Luke isn't Leia's only brother. The pair might have another still unknown sibling.Or, of course, J.J. Abrams might just not care about commas.2. Rey is a Skywalker. At this point, it'd probably be a bigger shock ifRey wasn't Luke Skywalker's daughter. The whole movie seems to hint at it. Luke's lightsaber appears to be calling to Rey; she has an incredible, supposedly untrained, ability to use The Force; when Kylo Ren gets inside her head he seems to see the island that Rey eventually finds Luke on and there are other little hints throughout the movie. As HuffPost Editor Matt Jacobs notes, at one point Rey calls the Millennium Falcon "garbage," mirroring how Luke once called it a "piece of junk."Everything seems to point to the fact that Luke is Rey's dad, unless, of course...3. Rey is not a Skywalker. She's a Kenobi. As YouTuberMr Sunday Moviesexplains, there are obvious parallels between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Rey: They are both skilled at using Jedi mind tricks; the scene where Rey hides on Starkiller Base is similar to when Obi-Wan was hiding to turn off the tractor beam on the Death Star and their clothes even look similar.Or...4. Wait, Rey is a Skywalker, and Kylo is her brother. As"Star Wars" theoristHelge Kre Fauskangerexplains, the story of Kylo Ren appears to be a reimagining of the fate of Han and Leia's son Jacen Solo from the "no-longer-canon" novels. Jacen also fell victim to the Dark Side. According to the theory posted onQuora:Jacen had a sister called Jaina, and it would be tempting to assume that if Kylo/Ben is the reimagined Jacen, Rey is the re-imagined Jaina who will eventually turn out to be the sister of Kylo/Ben. If so, she is the daughter of Han and Leia.5.Rey is a survivor of the "incident"at Luke's Jedi academy.flashback in the basement. The fact that Rey seems to have this crazy, untrained ability to use The Force could be looked at as a major plot hole, but what if it's not' What if Rey was trained'Many believe Rey's visionafter touching Luke Skywalker's old lightsaber may have been repressed memories coming back. Fans say she was trained by Luke and was present at the tragic incident at Jedi training that caused him to go into seclusion. As more evidence she was a Jedi-in-training,Redditor-caribou-points out that the clothes she's shown in as a child are similar to those the Jedi younglings have in the "Star Wars" prequels. Image: Tumblr6. Kylo Ren saved Rey. In Rey's vision, it appears that the person Kylo Ren stabs through the back was actually attacking her. If so, Kylo may have saved her life.WhatCulture explains:Kylo cant be seen to let people live after his orders were to slaughter everyone, so he mind-wipes her and leaves her on Jakku (or orders one of his team to do it), leaving her as his dirty little secret. If Rey was getting attacked and Kylo let her live, it would better explain why he freaks out after hearing "a girl" may have helped BB-8 and Finn escape from Jakku and why he's so interested in her throughout the movie, even offering to train her during their lightsaber duel.7. Rey's name isn't Rey. After the reveal that Kylo Ren is actually Ben, fans started speculating that Rey may not be who she says she is either, especially since changing her name would be the best way to keep her hidden on Jakku.RedditorPatojavierspeculates that Ben and Rey represent different aspects of Anakin/Darth Vader, the Light and the Dark:Kylo, represents Anakin's anger, fear, jealousy, etc is named Ben (Vader's ultimate enemy) and Rey represents love, compasin, forgiveness, etc; is named Padme (Anakin's true love, even in Vader's state)Whoa! Could Rey actually be named after Padme, the onetime Queen of Naboo' As more evidence, the Redditor points out that "rey" means "king" in Spanish, aka royalty. If true, the name hint is similar to how variations of "Vader" mean "father" in different languages, foreshadowing the big reveal in "The Empire Strikes Back" that Darth Vader is Luke's dad.Wow, so what do you think, BB-8'Uh, yeah.
